Subject: xdvik-1.8d
From: Dinh-Tuan.Pham@imag.fr
Content-Length: 2707
I have just download xdvik-1.8c and build it sucessfully. I am
writing to yoy to report an aparent bud: when I start xdvi and use the
Selfile widget to specify the file, I get an error:
puma% /ext/xdvik-18d/xdvik/xdvi &
[4] 12290
puma% X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)
Resource id in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 570
Current serial number in output stream: 572
(machine Sun LX, system sparc-solaris2.3, X11R5)
I discover later that if I start xdvi by giving a file name then it
seems to work properly.
I take this opportunity to make a suggestion on the "wish list" for a
future version of xdvi.
1) I always set the margin ptions to strip off the white space around
my xdvi 's page. However, when I type d (or down-arrow) to scroll down
the page, it scrolls all the way to the bottom of the page (the manual
say it scrolls 2/3 of a window full but since my window already
contains more than 1/3 of a window full, it would go to the end). I
have no interest to see the white space at the bottom of my page, so
it would be nice if the scrolling stops at the lower margin which I
have set. (The user still has the possibility to scroll down to the
bottom by typybg again d, for ex., or by ussing the scroll
bar). Another nice feature is to let the user set the amount of
scrolling. This can be done through a resource or a command option, but
it would be far more convenient to let the user set it dynamically in
a way similar to the margin setting through the command M (for ex. the
amount of scrolling can be defined as those which will bring the
pointer to the uper left corner of the window when u and r are typed).
2) Recent versions of xdvi can use grey level to display shrinking
bitmap. I prefer it but I miss the possibility to control the grey
level (which can be done before by setting the density). I recently
discover that this can be done through the parameter gamma (this
however does not seems to be well documented) but it would be nice if
this could be done *dynamically* in a way similar to the command S
(for ex. type 120 G would set the gamma parameter to 120% = 1.20)
I do hope that you will implement some of my wish list in a
future release of xdvik. The xdvi program seems not to be maintaned
anymore.
Sincerely,
